Grants for Great Ideas

2013 Highlights: Foundation Surprises New Caney ISD Teachers with Grant Money

32949The New Caney ISD Education Foundation (NCISDEF) awarded its first round of Grants for Great Ideas to unsuspecting teachers the morning of March 27, 2013. The Grants Express, made up of Foundation directors, New Caney ISD administrators, area business leaders and community leaders, walked the halls of the district’s campuses blowing horns, shaking tambourines, cowbells and maracas, and carrying balloons and facsimile checks on their way to the winning teacher’s rooms. 50 teachers received a combined $45,653.02.

“Seeing the teacher’s faces was the best reward of all,” said Sylvia Denzlinger, president of the Foundation. Teachers smiled, cheered and sometimes cried upon being presented with checks.  “The teachers were so excited, so grateful, and they can’t wait to put the grant money to use!” she said.

Kenn Franklin, superintendent of New Caney ISD, said the experience was very humbling. “It is amazing to see all of the support for the District and our teachers,” he said. “We’re so thankful for the Foundation, its volunteer members, and the many donors who made this all possible.”

The NCISDEF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt philanthropic organization created to provide financial support to New Caney ISD to enrich, maintain and expand programs needed to meet the District’s stated mission of excellence in education. Grants for Great Ideas is designed to encourage, facilitate, recognize and reward innovative and creative approaches in the classroom that will enhance learning. Grants of up to $1,000 are awarded to individual teacher initiated pro-grams or projects. Grants of up to $5,000 are awarded to campus teams, departments and district initiated programs or projects. The number of awards depends on funds available from the NCISDEF.

The grant awards would not have been possible without the donations from the school district’s vendors, personnel, community supporters, and parents. Founding Lead Donors include:
