More than 150 people sipped lemonade with little umbrellas Friday as the New Caney ISD Education Foundation expressed gratitude for support that is transforming the classroom experience.
Sponsors, donors, school board members and elected officials filled the Texan Drive Stadium Community Room for the foundation’s only annual fundraiser, the Breeze into Summer Luncheon, where a grant expo displayed five student projects.
The more than $50,000 raised at the luncheon will help support the foundation in providing teacher “grants for great ideas” like the student projects on display.

On Friday, May 2nd, 2014, the New Caney ISD Education Foundation hosted their first Breeze Into Summer fundraiser luncheon. Supported by a dedicated Board of Directors, vendors, parents and community partners, the event had twenty sponsors and was a sold out event. Held at Oakhurst Golf Club, guests were greeted by welcoming Board Members and a Lemonade Reception. The summer-themed silent auction offered vacation fun like a cruiser bicycle, a grill and cooler combo, a sailing trip on Lake Livingston and even handcrafted items from New Caney ISD’s own Advanced Tech Class.
Over a hundred and twenty guests were present when emcee and School Board member Curt Joslin introduced The Foundation. Superintendent Kenn Franklin spoke about the need for a solid foundation when building and growing. Porter High School teacher Mrs. Rhoden, a 2013 grant recipient, brought student Geoffrey Giannone to share their grant experience. Their team is building a 6′ sculpture of the school mascot to be bronzed and placed in the lobby. This project will span years and impact many students with group effort and school pride.
Executive Director, Michele Dykstra, reminded guests of the joys of anticipating summer. After putting the “fun” in fundraising, the Education Foundation Board individually thanked each and every sponsor with a handshake and a gift. Dykstra presented supporters with documentation of a star named in their honor.
Title sponsor Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson were present and in addition to their star, they received handwritten notes from students personally thanking them for their support.
An Ice Cream Sundae Bar followed before guests departed. The event raised $42,000. With the tremendous success of this event and additional efforts, the Education Foundation is poised to offer $100,000. in grant monies this Fall.
